What happened to the Milkman

A co-worker commented to me today about his milk container and how it looked like an old-fashioned milk jug. It raised a curiosity in my mind…what happened to the milkman?
In our parents’ days and even grandparents’ days, milk delivery to your home was commonplace. How else did you expect to get fresh milk and butter than from the milkman? In 1920, the beginning of the milk delivery era, seeing the milk wagon traveling down the road was nothing out of the ordinary. Some customers even trusted him with keys to their homes. He would arrive in the early morning hours, assess the refrigerator contents, and leave fresh milk and butter without waking a soul. The milkman was a staple in the everyday workings of a modern household up until the 1960’s.
The concept of doorstep milk delivery is virtually non-existent these days. What ended the profession of the personal and dependable milkman?
You can answer that easily for yourself. Would you give your house keys to a delivery man so he can scrounge through your fridge and see how much butter you’ll need to get through the week? Will he charge you fairly? Will he steal that precious family heirloom that sits on the kitchen table?
Lets face it…we are in an age of distrust and fraud. We were taught to haggle for the best deals…never trust a salesman…play the numbers game. Most of the time, you’d rather do nothing at all rather than explore your options and take a risk. What choice does that leave us with in the financial arena?
You need cash now for your structured settlement payments, but you don’t know of anyone you can trust to look out for your best interest.
